Crucial MX500 : Cloning from 256GB to 1TB(Crucial MX500) failed, Now SSD not recognized
Hello tried to clone my Laptop SSD. This failed(see appended log) now the new SSD is not recognized by multiple Laptops/Desktops/Cables...
Is my new SSD dead?
edit:
Done On:
Edition Windows 10 Pro
Version 21H1
Installiert am 13.07.2021
Betriebssystembuild 19043.1766
Leistung Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4180.0
Not Recognized on the machine above, Win 7 Pro, Ubuntu.
I guess the restart (the powerloss) + possible other factors ultimatively killed the ssd?

I guess the moral of the story is: If possible don't try to clone an active(the one you are using at the moment) ssd/hdd.
Thanks
Matthias

Hello,
thanks for your answer!
Hopefully if there are no latent faults with the new SSD, then you should be able to still use it by using the Acronis > Tools > Add new disk option to prepare that SSD, assuming that the drive is detected as being present.
Sry I might not communicated it clear enough. The SSD is not recognized anywhere (WIN 10Pro, WIN7Pro, Ubuntu), "dead". It wont let me use the Acronis tool as it does not detect the (Crucial) SSD. No worries. I will get a replacement tomorrow.
I think, I shouldn't have let it restart after Acronis was notifying me about the writing errors.
It is recommended to put the new drive in the laptop first, and connect the old drive via USB.
What if I had a second Laptop. How "safe" would a clone be if both SSDs are connected via USB(i.e. the active SSD running the OS is just running Acronis to clone from one external to another external? I guess it is safer than before..
Anyway. The LOGs show several issues but the cause of those issues is not really clear?
Why are there write error to the target? (was the SSD defect before? there is a problem with my usb port?)
Why do I have an invalid BIOS number? (I did not use any custom firmware on this laptop, but it is a refurbished model bought in 2016 so I don't really know what was done with it before)
Why is Acronis demanding a Restart if there were writing + other errors, indicating a cloning failure?
Are there any easy answers to these?
Thanks
Matthias

With laptops and cloning, you run the risk that Acronis will try to be too clever and insert device drivers for the actual hardware where the cloning is performed, so may still not work correctly when moved to a different laptop!

Impossible to tell you an answer. Most likely the SSD was already defective given it is a logical drive not a physical hard disk drive. Using Backup & Recovery eliminates issues caused by USB ports and removes the risk of both source and target drives being corrupted by any errors.

Again, impossible to answer as such detail comes from how the drive registers with the BIOS as the hardware is detected on boot.
Why is Acronis demanding a Restart if there were writing + other errors, indicating a cloning failure?
This relates to the previous message:
23/08/2022 05: 32: 01: 247 pm The boot ability of the operating system was restored.
23/08/2022 05: 32: 01: 270 pm A restart of the computer is required
Normally when you do this type of clone, Acronis will ask how the clone will be used, i.e. to be kept as a backup drive or installed to replace the current drive? For the second option, the cloned drive is then set as the active boot drive and the original one identified to be removed to allow this. As the clone failed, that action was reversed but needed the restart to complete the change after the clone drive was disconnected from the laptop.
