Upgraiding form acronis true image 2013

Thread needs solution

Thinking of finally upgrading from my very old true image 2013 version to the latest one.

Is there  a step by step guide to doing this. Do i have to delete old version first and if so how do i keep current backups and settings then.

Also i am using a very old laptop running windows 7 does that matter.

Thinking i buying a new machine soon as windows 7 no longer being supported as of next year.

Should i wait until then? Then do i have to buy a new licence or can transfer existing one and upgrade?

You would need to uninstall ATI 2013. Not sure if you would need to run the ATI clean-up utility before installing ATI 2020.

There is no way of keeping your current backup settings. The ability to export and save backup settings was not introduced until ATI 2018 if I recall correctly. While ATI 2020 should be able to read the backups made with 2013, I would strongly advise creating new backup tasks that will use the *.tibx file architecture for disk and partition backups as you can only restore them.

Compatibility is discussed in Knowledge Base: ATI 2020 compatibility is:

backups of Windows computers created with:
Acronis True Image 2019, Acronis True Image Subscription,
Acronis True Image 2018, Acronis True Image Subscription
Acronis True Image 2017, Acronis True Image Subscription
Acronis True Image 2016, Acronis True Image Cloud (Release 2016)
Acronis True Image 2015
Acronis True Image 2014*
True Image 2013 by Acronis*
Acronis True Image Home 2012*
Acronis True Image Home 2011*
Acronis True Image Home 2010*
Acronis True Image Home 2009*
Acronis True Image Home 11*

* Backups can only be restored. Other operations can be limited. It is necessary to create a new backup plan / archive.

You will be able to transfer the licence from you current PC to a new one, so that should not be a limiting factor.

Unless it is urgent I would wait for the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales as Acronis usually has very attractive deals during those sales.

You can get upgrade pricing for ATI 2020 - see this link (for US pricing I think).

I agree with Ian.  Nope, you can't upgrade 2013 directly and can't export and import the settings.  There was a major change of the interface in 2015 and ability to export and import settings only started in the application in 2019.

I would hold off on 2020 until at least the next update (still a bit too buggy IMHO) and/or until you can catch a deal on it.  In the meantime, I would take a full system backup with 2013, then give the 2020 trial a spin.

To install 2020, run the cleanup tool in my signature (it is the latest).  Make sure to right-click and "run as administrator" even if logged in as admin, and reboot when it's done.  Then you should be good to install the trial of ATI 2020 (again, make sure to right-click and "run as administrator" for the installer).  Give it spin and if you like it, then you can buy a license.  Otherwise, you'll either need to restore your 2013 backup, or go through the process of removing 2020 (cleanup tool, reboot, reinstall) and then starting with fresh scripts and new backups in 2013.
