Compltibility with Photoshop CS 6

Thread needs solution

Hi

Whilst trying out True image 2014 and 2015, I discovered that Photoshop CS6 locks up; specifically, when I try and save an image!

The only way, I can close Photoshop, is to do so through the Task Manage, in Windows 8.1 (Ctrl, Alt, & Del).

When I re-open Photoshop, it automatically recovers the image that I was trying to save!

However, as soon as I try to save, Photoshop again locks up!

I find myself in a loop, which I cannot get out of!

If I completely remove Acronis (Remove all evidence of the program), and then open Photoshop, the problem is still present.

However, if I re-install Photoshop, the problem is removed!

Note, that if I re-install Photoshop, with Acronis on board, the problem is not resolved!

My way of getting around this, is NOT to use Acronis live (All evidence of installation, Removed) - I use the bootable media to back up my operating system

I would be interested to hear if anyone else has had this experience!

Note, that I have experienced this problem, on both my laptop, and my desktop; so I don't think that it is an installation problem

I'm running Windows 7 Pro and have Adobe Design and Web CS6 Suite installed. I installed Acronis 2014 after the installation of Adobe and have no problems saving images with Photoshop CS6. I haven't tried Acronis 2015 yet as I'm still waiting to see if any bugs surface before I back up business files with it.

Hi Brian,

Have you tried reporting this issue to Adobe support?

From the description looks like environment-specific incompatibility of Photoshop libraries with some of those from Acronis.

I'm not trying to finger-point, but practically even if the issue gets reproduced in Acronis labs, we won't be able to change Photoshop libraries code -> the exception happens there.

So the ideal situation is that Adobe support gets some dumps of the hanging/crashing Photoshop processes from your machine along with some system-specific logs/data -> then analyzes the data on RnD level and finds the product code problem which leads to exception/lockup in the Photoshop libraries.

Thx,
Alexander

Thanks, for your advice, Alexander!

I have looked into this, and the only way I can inform Adobe is by paying for support; unfortunately as a pensioner, of limited means, I cannot afford to do this!

If I perform a goggle search on this subject, I find that others have experienced similar problems, which appear not to have been resolved - However, no one has associated this problem with Acronis!

It is all very sad, as I have just purchased 2014 (free upgrade to 2015), planning to use this program to back up my operating system, and personal folders - the latter by daily differential backup!

I will have to live with just using the bootable media

Brian,

Maybe then posting it at Adobe communities may help in the end. Feel free to point Adobe reps to this thread; they can PM me if assistance in investigation is needed (e.g. if they have some questions about how Acronis low-level modules operate, etc).

P.S. Personally I use Flash boot media a lot for my backups. Just don't forget to validate the resulting backups (this advice is true for any environment).

Thx,
Alexander

I have a problem that Adobe CC freezes when using the file open Windows dialog box. Adobe support said it was a shell extension. When I disable the Acronis shell extensions, Adobe does stop crashing. Try disabling them with ShellExView.

Thanks, for this tip, William, but I haven't a clue what Acronis shell extensions, are, or, where to locate them!

However, I may (not fully tested yet, have solved the problem - I have re-installed Photoshop on s different drive, to Acronis (I have two SSD's) -

BTW - I have also reverted to Acronis 2014, as I have found 2015 unusable

It frequently locked up (I click on folder locations, and nothing happened).

Also, when I tried to restore an earlier image of my operating system, it deleted my "System Reserved" partition - what a nightmare - I had to delete the whole of my C drive, and reload Windows 8, from the DVD

I'm convinced that 2015 is a trial prototype
