How long should recovery of 500 GB take?

Thread needs solution

I started recovering a backup of a full PC (3 partitions:  FAT16, Recovery, and C:) onto a new hard drive of the same size (1 TB) that I formatted with GPT.  The drive with the backup and the new drive are both SATA drives each in an external drive case connected to a Windows 7 Pro PC with 8 GB RAM by USB 3.0.

Acronis True Image 2015 currently says that the recovery has 1 day 20 hours 50 minutes remaining, and it keeps increasing the time remaining, adding another minute every second.  When it first started it said the time remaining was 12 hours.  Now it says almost two days!

Is it normal for the recovery of half a TB to take two full days or longer?  It is processing about 0.01 GB every two seconds.  When I divide 500 GB by 0.01, that's about 26 hours (if I calculated correctly), not 48 hours.  Maybe the progress bar is just not calculating the estimated time remaining correctly?

Update:  After 7 hours of recovering the backup it says estimated time remaining is 2 days 8 hours 31 minutes, and the estimated time is still increasing.  Is there any way to make it go faster?

Update:  After 14 hours of recovering the backup it has only recovered 154 GB.  it still says estimated time remaining is 2 days 7 hours 20 minutes.

Update:  Now it says 2 days 13 hours 29 minutes remaining, and it seems to have stopped recovering the backup; it's stuck at 156.6 GB recovered and is not increasing.

David, it is possible that this type of restore can take a long time but the main reasons why this becomes excessive is normally down to problems on the drives involved, i.e. encountering any bad sectors.

If you decide to abort the restore, then I would recommend running a CHKDSK /F /R against both drives.

If you are still watching the restore and doing this from within Windows 7, then try the Log File Viewer app (link in my signature below) and check the logs written by ATIH for any messages about the restore plus also check the Windows Event Logs for any messages that may be posted there too.
