Method to remain continuously protected

Thread needs solution

I just installed Acronis TIH 2012 and initiated 2 backup jobs. The first was to backup my "Z" drive which holds business records and the second job was to backup my "C" drive which is my OS and everything else.

It has been a couple of weeks since I performed these backups and I wanted to update the backup to incorporate changes. I opened Acronis TIH 2012 and accessed the "Z" drive backup and clicked on the right side of the details pane "back up now" and it proceeded to perform what I thought was an incremental backup.
After this process there are now 2 "versions" and indeed when I look atb the backup location there are 2 individual back up files.

How do I configure this to continuously back up both my "Z" drive and my "C" drive to just one file?
I see that I can also schedule a weekly back up which would probably be just fine but again I dont want several "versions"/files, but rather want only one file reflecting all back ups to date so reinstalling either "Z" or "C" would require only reinstalling 1 file.

I hope this makes sense. I have surfed the site but am a bit confused about how to do this.

I dont require different versions of these drives, I require the most up to date version of each drive in one file and nothing more.

Darryl,

ATI makes several files because it keeps a backup history. Don't be bothered by it. To restore, you just need to pick the file with the date you want to recover up to.
Don't be bothered as well by having 2 different backup chains for each drive. This is in fact allows you to have different backup frequencies.

Finally, don't think you only need the last backup. Based on my personal experience and that of many users on this forum, trust me, you want as much backup history as your backup space can keep.

If you want to ignore this advice, and you still want a single file, a way to do do it is to create a new disk and partition backup this way:
- click on disk and partition backup,
- in the upper right click on the blue link until you see the disks (not the partitions) you have,
- select all the disks you want to include in the backup,
- click on backup options,
- click on backup scheme, choose incremental,
- click on always do an incremental backup,
- turn autoconsolidation on,
- set it up to keep only 1 most recent backup (this will make ATI fold the last incremental into the full)
Be aware that autoconsolidation is a long process and you need a lot of space free in the backup space (enough space for at least one full backup).

Again this is not the recommended option. The best option is to set a backup scheme that creates a new full from time to time, and keep only a limited of set of backups (full +incrementals = chain)
