TIH 11 Can I backup to a network shared folder ?

Thread needs solution

Hi - I have True Image Home 11 installed on a Vista computer.

I have a Windows 7 computer on the same IP network, and I have shared and made available for writing a folder. Note - there is no DHCP server. These machines have dedicated (fixed) IP addresses. Network discovery is turned on.

I have created a Backup Location in True Image home on the vista machine, and created a backup task. On this Vista machine, I have also created a mapped network drive to the same location, and, using windows explorer, can inspect the contents of that remote folder.

I have created a Backup Task to backup AN IMAGE of my C: drive on the Vista machine across to the backup location. (I want the .tlb file to end up on the Windows 7 box)

I have the latest snapapi drivers, and the latest build of TIM 11.

Firstly - Is this allowed ? All attemps have failed so far, in this latest attempt, the log for the backup says "locking partition c:...." and has been like that for 10 minutes. 0% progress...

Am I on the right track ?

Thanks - Steve

Hello Stephen,

Thank you for finding time to report about the issue on Forum. I understand your concern, and will do my best to assist you.

This is surely allowed, the only thing we would advise is to use the UNC path to the share instead of the mapped drive. When you map a drive, it becomes mapped only under your Windows account. The Acronis product runs its tasks using the system account and so it is sometimes impossible to locate your mapped drive (especially when you are logged off). Please find more details and instructions in this KB article.

Still  according to the issue description it looks like the issue is related to the SnapAPI issue, which is strange as you have the latest version. The situation requires investigation. Could you please gather Acronis Info and send it to us?

Please note that Acronis True Image Home 11 is an outdated product: it's not developed, updated, and supported anymore, so there aren't many options we have left.

I will be looking forward for your reply and the diagnostic information.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

thanks for your reply.

I'm attaching the Acronis Info now..

I have also tried to specify a backup location of \\mycomputer\e$\Backups\xxx (a UNC path). Still Acronis say 0% complete and then fails after a while. During this time it's sayin 'Locking Partition C:'

(apologies for the double post...)

Stephen,

Can you try to do a local backup with the same data to backup and verify your problem is with the backup destination?

If a local backup works just fine, disconnect your mapped drive, edit your backup settings to confirm the destination and the network credentials.

Hi.

Tried again to the network drive, this time left it running. Eventually it failed with the message "Failed to write data to the archive file. A Possible reason may be porr media quality.: None"

re: "Can you try to do a local backup with the same data to backup "

I can't at the moment, as I am doing an image backup and don't have the disc space. I don't have a USB Disc drive large enough to back this up to iether.

Backing up a couple of files locally works.
Backinig up a couple of files to my remote drive location fails.

Stephen,

From your system report, it looks like you are using TI v11 and not TI 2011. v11 is not supported on Win7. I wouldn't be surprised that you cannot get through because of differences in windows networking.
