Using nonstop backup. now Checkdisk won't work
I've been using ATI home 2011 for 3 days. I started using Nonstop Backup and it seems very useful. However, I had a message to say that the disk needed checking so I went into Start/Computer/r click on C: and told it to repair the disk. Message can't do it now but will do it when rebooted. Said OK. System reboots but fails to start. I get a line of coloured lines all along the top of the black screen immediately after boot. System just sits there and does nothing. I then go into Safe Mode and ask for Last known working configuration and the system comes back.
OK. I thought. I will turn off Nonstop Backup. I told it to turn off in Services, but it went to Automatic instead! I then disabled it and rebooted and tried checkdisk. It still failed as above. Used Safe mode again and saw that Nonstop Backup is running again in Services.
How do I turn off Nonstop Backup permanently? The only way I can think of is to remove ATI 2011, repair the disk and then re-instal, which is silly. There must be another way.
I'm not happy with this purchase but accept I may be doing something wrong. I Ought to be able to turn off NSB _easily_.
Window 7 Home 64. HP Pavilion DV6-2113SA.
Thanks.

Sorry for the delay. I can see what is happening after looking in the Event log. The chkdsk IS being done but I'm not getting the 'normal' display on a black screen showing what is happening. All I get is the full row of 'dashes' along the very top of the screen.
The disk passes K so I now need to work out why I'm not getting the display!

Could it be a monitor issue ? Try autosetting you monitor when you get that funny display. Might work. Also check your graphic card connectors & cable. Just to be sure it's not a H/W related issue.

It's a laptop, so not much I can do. Everything else works fine.

I suppose my original query is still valid. Do I need to turn Nonstop backup off to do things like checkdisk, or normal imaging? I have found that I can stop Nonstop backup in msconfig but that means a reboot. There really ought to be a way to turn it off within the GUI!

No, you don't need to stop NSB. Don't worry about having the service turned on. It doesn't do anything unless you have a NSB task running. That you can pause.

By virtue of using NSB, it will always be running! But OK, I will pause it if I need to do anything alse.
Thank you.

You don't need to pause it, but you can if you want to. This is what I meant.
